Position Description
The Mathematics Department at Seattle University invites applications for one tenure-track position with expertise in data science beginning September 2025. We are looking for candidates to be part of a core team of faculty for our growing interdisciplinary MS in Data Science program, launched in the Fall of 2021. Preference will be given to those who show promise of being able to support a data science program that will be a leader in the ethical application of data science. Salary and rank will be determined based on experience.
Successful candidates will be responsible for teaching data science courses at both the masters and undergraduate levels; maintaining an active research program; supervising masters and undergraduate students in research projects; engaging in professional, university, and department service activities; and demonstrate a genuine desire to contribute to the mission of Seattle University.
Qualifications
Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in data science, statistics, biostatistics, applied mathematics, computer science, or closely related field, earned prior to employment commencement in Fall 2025; demonstrated experience with applications of data science; demonstrated excellence in teaching; and a commitment to the mission of Seattle University.
Additionally, please highlight any experience you have with interdisciplinary work or consulting experience, experience supervising or mentoring student research, industry experience, and experience with ethical, legal, and social issues in data science.

Compensation at a Glance:
Salary Range: $85.000-$118,000
Seattle University has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, and not based on a candidate's gender or any other protected status. Your total compensation goes beyond the number on your paycheck. Seattle University provides generous leave, health plans, and retirement contributions that add to your total compensation package.
