Description
The Department of Mathematics at The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC) invites applications for two tenure-track nine-month faculty positions in Mathematics at the rank of Assistant Professor to commence on or before the fall semester of 2020. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Mathematics or a related field by August 1, 2020. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The Department of Mathematics consists of 17 tenured or tenure-track faculty members, 11 full-time teaching faculty, and 2 administrative staff members. The Department prides itself on a tradition of active and productive teaching and research, with growing interest for national impact. Research activities and external grants have been steadily growing in recent years. In conjunction with UTC's SimCenter, the Department of Mathematics has developed the Ph.D. Concentration in Computational and Applied Mathematics. The successful candidates must have a record of excellence in teaching at the college level and a strong record of, or outstanding potential for, significant research, and a commitment to service at the department, college, and university levels. The standard teaching load for these positions is three courses per semester, though a teaching reduction in the initial career phase may be negotiated.
Qualifications
The Department of Mathematics seeks individuals with strong foundations and research interests in Actuarial Science, Algebra, Analysis, Applied Mathematics, Probability and Statistics. Candidates in other research areas will also be considered. The successful candidates must show outstanding promise in research and a serious commitment to teaching a range of courses in their areas of expertise at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, secure significant research funding, and participate in the curriculum development process. The Department of Mathematics has regularly increased the number of students involved in research at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The faculty members filling these positions will contribute to this effort. Applicants whose research has potential application in either of the UTC Chancellor's emphasis areas of
(1) Health and Wellness (Human Health and the Environment), and
(2) Urban Systems – data analytics, modeling, simulation
